Derby Daze [squareformat]
Second Edition
The Derby Daze project was undertaken in 2013, during three bouts of the Sydney Roller Derby League. Each image is a long-exposure photo, taken while tracking skaters passing in front of the camera. Images were processed for boosted colour saturation, with an intent to produce works that sit somewhere in a Venn diagram overlap between the sculptural friezes of a Hellenistic monument, like the Pergamon Altar, the motion images of Futurism, and the Colour Field aspects of Abstract Expressionism. The shoots produced two bodies of work; one set strictly square-cropped, the other freely proportioned. These have been processed in two editions; the first in 2013 using Aperture as a RAW developer, the second in 2025 based on a Capture One workflow. The work is available as eBooks in DRM-free, standards-compliant, fixed-layout EPUB format. Prints are available on a bespoke basis, email: contact at mattgodden dot com to enquire. Thanks to Sydney Roller Derby League for arranging permission, and facilitating locations to set up and shoot. |
